This die-cast metal lorry was found in a box of toys in a charity shop. As you can see from the pictures it was quite shabby and in need of some TLC. Firstly the model was stripped into its component parts.The model was coated in paint stripper and cleaned up. A new exhaust pipe and other small repairs were made such as tyres being glued back together.The components when repaired were cleaned, primed and resprayed. The trailer had a new deck made from wood and a load of pipes was made to sit on it. Some small details such as a tarpaulin and company logos were produced to finish the model off.Cowans Sheldon 76 tonne breakdown crane
This is a model of a Cowans Sheldon 76 tonne breakdown crane as used by British Rail. The basis of the crane is one of the Hornby breakdown crane but much altered. The majority of the components are laser cut in plasticard after being designed on a computer. There is about 20 hours work in the conversionAmerican Railway Diorama
This is a diorama I built to display some of my American railway models. A simple frame was built from mdf and pine. The scenery is polystyrene packing from an electrical appliance covered in modroc and polyfilla. A wooden trestle bridge was built using balsa wood.The filler and modroc was shaped before the river was poured using polyurethane varnish. The waterfall was constructed using a jot glue gun, acrylic paint and small stones found on the driveway.British coastal freight ship
These are a couple of freelance models of a British coastal freight ship. The basis is a piece of 1inch pine wood cut to the shape of the keel. This then had a laser cut boat hull glued to the keel. Small details such as the bridge, funnel, anchors have been added. Both these models are still currently being worked on.16 ton.mineral wagons
Here are a couple of 16 ton.mineral wagons built by Lima. Whilst the models are about the right size they are very outdated. In service the real wagons were very abused and suffered from exposure to the elements. A weathering job to the external condition most of these wagons were kept in would hide most of the imperfections of the model. A mixture of red/brown/orange acrylics were used to create various shades of rust effects. Real coal, broken up was used as a load.Tidmouth engine sheds
This is a model of Tidmouth engine sheds used on a Thomas themed layout. The sizes were worked out and The parts were drawn on computer software and laser cut. Once cut the parts were glued together and spray painted a sand effect colour. The model has had lights in the roof added.British Rail mk2 coach conversion
